My Parents Disowned Me Because I Wanted to Start a Family, While They Only Wanted Me to Build and Grow a Business!
My relationship with my parents has deteriorated significantly ever since I began making choices guided by my own wishes, rather than following their advice. From a young age, they meticulously managed every part of my life, making sure I excelled at school and participated only in activities they considered worthwhile. Childhood friendships were never encouraged, and any achievements were simply expected, never truly celebrated.
Their idea of the perfect child left me living without much joy, as my dreams and interests were often brushed aside. Reading fiction books was forbidden, and I was allowed only educational games and toys. Even the university I attended was chosen for me, and although I performed well academically, the pressure to be flawless became overwhelming.
Despite this rigid control, I found lovehis name is Mark. Knowing that my parents wouldnt approve, I kept our relationship hidden, anxious about how they might react. Eventually, Mark and I decided to marry quietly, far away from their watchful eyes. As expected, my parents were furious; they criticised my decision and scolded me for not living up to the image of the perfect child they had so carefully shaped.
When I became pregnant, their disapproval grew even stronger. Thankfully, Marks parents were supportive and welcoming, whereas my own parents remained distant. Even after the birth of our child, they didnt come to congratulate us or meet their grandchild. Instead, they used the moment to voice their disappointment, reinforcing their belief that I had ruined my future.
Their harsh words hurt me deeply. Despite many attempts to contact my mother, she refused to respond, leaving me to feel abandoned by those who should have stood by me. It became painfully clear that their need for control had overshadowed their love, and they chose to break all ties simply because I wanted happiness on my own terms.
Over time, I gradually accepted that our relationship might never heal. I stopped hoping for reconciliation, recognising that their strict expectations and my need for self-fulfilment were irreconcilable. Though the estrangement is painful, Ive found comfort in the love and support of my husband and his family, who accept me just as I am. My journey to happiness has been challenging, but Ive realised that my joy shouldnt depend on anyone elses expectations. Ill continue to build a life filled with love and acceptance, even if it means leaving behind the suffocating standards of my past.
